We invite you to join us to Open the Gates for Justice & Hope on Friday, October 4 at Drury Lane in Oakbrook. There are many places you could be on a Friday night. Here are the top 5 reasons we hope you will be with us.
#1: Food and Fellowship
We know this is the season for banquet food but Drury Lane produces excellent food in an elegant environment. You could watch TV but why not get dressed up, enjoy a glass of wine from the cash bar, and join 1,000 others at a historic event. Dr. Tony Evans says,
“This is the opportunity of a lifetime because it is the need of a lifetime.”
The need of a lifetime
Dr. Evans is referring to the lack of justice and hope which exist in America today. Two years ago we ranked 65th in the world for providing affordable access to justice. Today we rank 98th. We fail in our pledge of liberty and justice for all when only those with significant resources can afford justice.
The opportunity of a lifetime
Where does Grant go for justice? Grant was disabled from a car accident. He was confused by the eviction notice he received. An agency referred Grant to us. He brought in a grocery bag full of papers. The landlord was claiming Grant had not paid but Grant had receipts. Grant tried to explain to the landlord who refused to listen. The landlord was trying to eliminate subsidized housing tenants. Challenged by a lawyer, the landlord backed down and reluctantly acknowledged his mistake. Without access to a lawyer, Grant would have been evicted, homeless, and alone. With help Grant remained in his apartment, found new hope and new friends. Watch Grant tell his story:
#2 Great music by Second Baptist Church’s Gospel Choir
Come hear great gospel music. The choir will be performing from 6:00 to 6:30 and twice during the program which will end by 9:00. Grab your wine, meet new friends and old, and enjoy the powerful music of Second Baptist Church’s Gospel Choir.
#3 Moving Program
Allow Joe Slawek to welcome you as he shares the blessings of generosity. Joe is Chairman & CEO of FONA International. Joe is the author of Ingredients for Success, 10 best practices for business and life. One of these ingredients is generosity. Joe’s life chapter is Matthew 25 which includes being wise (parable of the virgins), being productive (parable of the talents) and being generous (parable of the sheep and goats).
Joe is followed by Roy Patterson, the voice of Moody Radio. Roy will open us in prayer. Judith Miller will provide a powerful update on work being done locally to open the gates for justice and hope to low income neighbors in need.
We have a panel that will demonstrate how you can be part of expanding access to justice through community based legal ministry. David Dillon, owner of the Dillon Kane Group and co-founder of Together Chicago will join Pastor Michael Allen of Uptown Baptist Church and Attorney Tempia Courts. Ted Talk and best-selling author of Entrepreneurial DNA, Joe Abraham will moderate. Learn how donors, churches, attorneys and volunteers are coming together all across the country to Open the Gates of access to justice.
Our client video will inform and move you as we put a face on the opportunity to do justice together.
Discover your role in advancing gospel justice
For 19 years Administer Justice has grown strong in the Chicago suburbs in mastering how to deliver impactful legal aid services. Five years ago I left Administer Justice to expand this opportunity nationally through Gospel Justice Initiative. I believed Christians should be leading the way in advancing God’s heart of justice for the poor. Christian Legal Aid was almost non-existent, but by providing the tools, resources and support needed, today there are 92 locations across the country.
Last year we merged the local ministry with the national to maximize our strengths. We are now in a position to launch AND support 1,000 gospel justice centers across the country. That is the opportunity our Open the Gates campaign makes possible. I will provide an important update on where we are and lay out an exciting vision for where God is taking us. If you have friends who care about justice, please bring them with you. They will be excited to discover their role in doing justice.
#4 – Dr. Tony Evans
Dr. Tony Evans is a well known pastor, speaker and author. Dr. Evans accepts few invitations but is a strong proponent of Gospel Justice. Not only did he write the foreword to my book, Gospel Justice, but he is a strong advocate for advancing God’s Kingdom Agenda which includes justice. Dr. Evans will make the case for why justice matters to God and must matter to us. In a world of great divisions and injustice, now is the time for people of righteousness to stand for justice.
If you have not heard Dr. Evans in person, you will be glad you chose to spend your Friday night with him. This is Dr. Evans encouragement to you:
“October 4. Let your voice be heard, let your presence be seen and bring a crowd so it’s full of people pursuing justice.”
#5 – You
We are ALL told to do justice, love kindness and walk humbly with God. Discover your role. This is a free event but I will ask for your support. Find your place. That may include prayer, introductions to locations or lawyers, volunteering or other ideas. We hope that will include financial support as we steward well the resources entrusted to us and expand access to justice and hope as we Open the Gates together. I look forward to seeing you on Friday, October 4.
