Why 2018 was a breakthrough year for justice

Happy New Year!  Some of us are glad 2018 is coming to a close.  Others are sad to see it go.  Most wonder where it went as time hastens forward.  I want to take a moment to thank you for being part of a breakthrough year for justice.

The 2018 breakthrough

I am not referring to the political right who cheered Supreme Court appointments or the political left who cheered midterms.  I care deeply about our nation which needs prayer and committed actors who stand for gospel justice.  But my citizenship is in heaven and I love advancing His work in this world.

New Justice Centers

We added 15 new site locations over the year expanding the help of a lawyer and the hope of the gospel into neighborhoods in need.  We end the year in 79 locations!  New friends saw their law degree as a gift from God to be used on behalf of others.  By faith they stepped out of their comfort zone knowing there were others to support them.   Pray for these missionaries as they serve neighbors with the love of Christ.

Our goal in the year ahead is to add 50 new site locations.  Pray for God to raise up justice champions to step into this area of need.  If you are a lawyer or know a lawyer please encourage them to visit our lawyer page and download the guide on how to have life changing impact through legal ministry.  We are in conversation with more than 30 people right now.  That is an amazing breakthrough and has the potential to impact many lives in 2019.

We still have many unreached areas so if you know someone in an area where we are not presently located please call or e-mail [email protected]

New Building

breakthroughIn February my wife called our board to 100 days of prayer.  100 days praying Psalm 100 thanking Him in advance for what He was going to do.  That’s a bold prayer.  We listened and prayed.  God responded.  He provided a building, major donors, multiple new site locations, and the opportunity to merge with Administer Justice.  All great breakthroughs begin with prayer!

Shortly after we began praying we received the call that God was prompting the owners of an office building in Itasca to donate the building to us.  By April the building was ours.  With the later merger it became apparent that God provided the building as a strong foundation for future growth through an Open the Gates campaign we will launch on October 4, 2019.  The building is on the market for $436,000.  Pray for its sale and for faithful stewardship of all the Lord is entrusting to us.

New Ministry Team

During the 100 days of prayer the Executive Director of Administer Justice was on a prayer retreat where God made it clear that his time was done and something new was on the horizon.  That opened the door to a summer of prayer and discussions with the boards of Administer Justice and Gospel Justice Initiative resulting in our coming together in September.  What an amazing breakthrough opportunity!breakthrough

Our new team is pictured above.  We have broken ourselves into three divisions to “Engage Hearts”, “Administer Justice” and “Ensure Stewardship”.  One more team member will be added – a full-time bilingual receptionist – and two others are not pictured.  We began the year with six committed employees and end with 14.  The new structure establishes a strong base for significant growth in 2019.

New Donor Support

15 business leaders stepped up to provide $5,000 in launch funding for new site locations.  These new gospel justice centers witnessed many people come to faith in Christ, join a church, and complete the legal plan created for them.  Help and Hope were provided.  Each new site is self-sustaining after launch through the collection of small client administrative fees.  One time gift.  Lifetime of impact.  Join our Torchbearer society to change lives in 2019 and beyond.  Learn more from fellow donors or make a year end gift.

Joining forces with Administer Justice tripled our capacity to serve in the year ahead.  Across the board giving was up 25% and with your help we plan to grow another 25% in 2019.  Please consider a year-end gift in any amount.  All giving goes directly to support ministry.

New Campaign – Dr. Tony Evans & Open the Gates!

2018 was a breakthrough year in establishing the foundation for an exciting campaign in 2019 called Open the Gates!  We want to open the gates of access to justice and Jesus.  The campaign is designed to significantly expand our reach and support.

Dr. Tony Evans accepts less than 10% of invitations to speak but he is excited about launching our campaign on Friday, October 4 at Drury Lane.  If you are in the Chicago area save the date!  If not, consider making a trip to Chicago.  This will be an exciting evening.  Dr. Evans invites you to support the work of Gospel Justice Initiative.  I pray you will consider making a year-end donation to launch us strong into the breakthrough work God has for us in 2019.  Thank you for being part of this gospel justice ministry.  May God richly bless you in 2019!

About Bruce Strom

I am a lawyer, pastor, CEO, and author of Gospel Justice who builds communities of justice minded Christians to free people from legal burdens so they can flourish. I didn’t always care about justice. I was busy as the senior partner of a successful multi-office law practice. But I missed something. God was less concerned about me building my kingdom and more concerned about how I was advancing His kingdom. I left private practice to start Administer Justice to serve the least of these with their legal needs. Over 20 years later, churches, lawyers, and individuals across the country are joining a movement to Administer Justice for those in need.
