6 Ways to Absolutely Improve Your Justice Impact

2017 is here.  For many the year promises great uncertainty.  The need for justice is great.  But with so much need and so little time, where do I get started?  Can I really make a difference anyway?  These are great questions.  Here are six other questions to help you absolutely improve your justice impact in 2017

1.  What are you passionate about?

Human Trafficking, Mass Incarceration, Global Warming, Access to Justice, Immigration…   It could be a long list.  But you read something or heard someone speak on a topic and it struck you as wrong and you want to do something about it.

2.  Do you want to learn more?

The Internet is a wonderful device.  So is a library.  Honestly read more about your passion.  We in the justice world need informed advocates.  In my world I want people to know you don’t have the right to a free attorney and the consequences can destroy health, families, and whole communities.  I want people to know that the United States ranks 65th in the world- tied with Pakistan! – for providing affordable access to justice.  That makes me mad.  That should not be.  There is much to learn and you don’t have to know everything, but you do need to be informed.

3.  Can you find the trailblazers?

Find those who are experts in the field and follow them.  They blazed a trail so you would not have to.  They probably wrote a book (shameless plug – Gospel Justice), know the field really well, and would love nothing more than to help you live out your passion.  That is true of all my justice friends and they are a pretty cool group of people.  I’d like to hang out more with them and I’m sure they’d love to hang out with you.

4. Will you enlist others?

God created community.  While He clearly shows the difference one person can make, He also desires us to involve others.  The Samaritan found the Innkeeper.  Find a friend or better yet – friends, to join you.

5. Can you get practical?

Find out from your research, interaction with leaders and others what you can do practically.  Most groups have good action guides.  You can sign up to be an advocate on our book web site for starters.   Start a study using the free five session guide on the book site.   Establish a Justice For All Club in your school.  Contact us about a grant to start a new legal ministry in your community.  The great thing about legal aid is that the needs are in your backyard and this is something you can do.  You just need a team, some training, and some ongoing support.  We got your back and would love to see you living out your passion of providing justice for all.  Honestly we love seeing you live out your passion with other groups also.

6. Will you get going?

Put one foot in front of the other and if you are wearing Nike’s well – Just Do It.  As you know I prefer – “Go and Do Likewise”.  Either way faith without action is dead – so get going.  All my friends in the justice world are happy to help.  We love Bible studies.  We need to learn.  But the Bible is a call to action so please exercise your faith, gifts and passions in a way that makes a real difference in the lives of others.  You were created for a purpose.  Discover it and live it out loud.

Share these ideas with friends.  You won’t save the world – someone else already did that!  But like His disciples you can sure make a significant difference in His name and to His glory.  So what are you waiting for?

Go and Do Likewise!
